Curtis Kamiya Music

Is it possible to try out a lesson?

Your first session with Curtis is a 45-minute consultation and it’s completely free. This consultation can be conducted over the phone or in-person at our office. Curtis will start by briefly sharing more about our history, then ask you some questions so you can get crystal clear about where your are and where you want to be. He’ll share some effective strategies that will support you to move towards your goals and then move into some hands-on instruction. Finally, you’ll determine whether continuing to work together would be a great fit for you. Get started today by letting us know a bit more about you and grab your free first session!

Do you accept beginners?

Yes, we specialize in beginners! However, Curtis does teach across all skill levels and most age groups. We accept students from as young as 9 to 110 years old (as long as you can still strum a guitar, you are welcome to apply). If you want to perform at a professional level, we will build a curriculum suited for your needs. If you just want to know enough to kanikapila or jam with your friends, we can work towards those goals, too.

How much do lessons cost?

A 60-minute lesson is USD $80.00 and a 30-minute lesson is USD $50.00. We do offer a discount if you purchase a package of 5 or more sessions. Below are some examples:

- $325 for five (5) 60-minute sessions
(a 19% savings!)
- $200 for five (5) 30-minute sessions
(a 20% savings!)

We accept cash, personal or business checks, all major credit cards and PayPal payments. If you know you would like to purchase your individual or package sessions now, go here to purchase.

What kind of music do you teach?

Musical direction will largely be decided by you. Our private sessions are uniquely created just for you: a customized curriculum tailored to your interests, learning style, desired skill level, musical tastes, and articulated goals. Do I ever get a chance to perform in public?

We have two student concerts per year in the fall and spring. This gives you a chance to share the progress you’ve made, and provides you an opportunity to gain performance experience. We can build this performance into your goals and steadily build your music muscle so you are ready for the concert. Our concert is held at the Hard Rock Café in Waikiki with a full, live band to back you (in fact, it’s our band, Mango Season!) Be prepared - not only is there always a welcoming, encouraging crowd but our last recital had 150+ in attendance!
